Insurance agents who are looking at Salesforce for their CRM and AMS should consider these important facts.1. Salesforce is a powerful tool that is built to support the world’s largest companies.2. Salesforce is worth billions of dollars, but they only have 150,000 customers out of the tens of millions of businesses worldwide – why? They’re built for only the largest companies out there. They aren’t built for a team of 5 or 25 people.3. Salesforce implementations require having a full-time person manage the setup and configuration. These employees usually make between $80,000 and $125,000 per year.4. Monthly costs for Salesforce very quickly reach $1000 and sometimes $100,000 per month depending on the number of users.5. Salesforce implementation costs typically start at around $50,000 and can easily reach the 7-figure mark for bigger businesses.6. All of that just to get your insurance CRM setup. Then, you have to add on a marketing automation package like Eloqua or Pardot – either of those will add $2,000 to $10,000 per month to your bill and each of those systems require you to have a marketing plan, content, assets, etc. ready to go – and you’ve got to pay $20,000 to one of their certified experts to get it set up.7. Salesforce is not an insurance AMS. How do you get your policy downloads, commission reports, renewals, etc in there? You have to build a custom integration with the AMS you’re using8. Salesforce is a great tool for big massive businesses. It’s probably the best out there if you’re a mid-sized company or larger doing more than $75,000,000 a year in revenue. 9. There are very few insurance agencies that fit that profile. Salesforce is for carriers – not agencies.Companies like Veruna, Novidea, and Applied Epic have tried to build their AMS platform on top of Salesforce. Building an agency management system on top of another companies platform is a bad idea for two reasons. 1) The AMS company has no control over the cost structure. Salesforce can increase pricing at any time2) The AMS company has no control over the business practices. Salesforce can require terms of service that do not benefit insurance agents.The AMS company has little to no power in how Salesforce is run, or in the decisions that Salesforce makes to the company.
