Situ Live is like B8ta (Tokio) and _blaenk (Cologne) a new breed of retailer that flips the traditional Retail Business model (Buy product, put margin on top, sell online/instore) upside down. They operate like a marketplace in the physical space providing experience and expertise rather than a broad assortment (which you can find online). Situ Live charges brands a listing fee for that and provides the entire retail value chain as a service (staff, training, counselling, etc.). I had the pleasure of interviewing Roberto Simi, CTO at Situ. Two things stuck in my head that the store will cover in the future:Takeaway No. 1: 🕵️ The Store = Source of fresh dataWith the end of third party cookie, many retailers will be forced to get to know customers. And the physical store can be a very cost effective way compared to paid advertising to do that. It is all about training the people, getting the processes in place and for sure finally have the necessary and easy to use technology in the store. But it’s not just about 1st party data alone. Situ Live is special as it assesses in-store data via anonymized tracking. In that way they can for example measure – very similar to a page impression on the web – a customer contact or engagement with a product. That data put into a dashboard in turn is pure gold for brands and manufacturers as they get first hand customer feedback. Situ Live in turn can use such information for better assortment planning, visual merchandising or conversion optimization. It gets really powerful if you merge such data and compare it with your online data to design the ultimate omni-channel journey.
