Almost €600bn was wiped off the value of the Magnificent Seven tech stocks yesterday as results from Tesla and Google owner Alphabet sent shockwaves through the markets, writes Anne Ashworth & Leah Montebello.

On a bleak day for investors with money tied up in tech, shares in Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia and Tesla dived.

Tesla led the sell-off with its shares down more than 10pc after another set of disappointing figures from the electric car maker.

Alphabet’s latest results also hit sentiment amid concerns over its spending on artificial intelligence and advertising revenues on its YouTube division.

This hit shares across the sector with the other members of the Magnificent Seven – for so long drivers of global stock market buoyancy as investors bet on the AI revolution – also tumbling.
